Nutmeg Essential Oil Profile: Nutmeg is the fruit of a certain evergreen tree. The fruit is dried and separated creating two (2) different spices from the same fruit. Mace is the name of the spice created from the outer shell of the fruit, while nutmeg is the inner nut of the dried fruit. Nutmeg has history dating back to the first century and was considered a very valuable and expensive spice that was traded frequently. Nutmeg has extensive medicinal and culinary properties.

Physical Uses: Nutmeg essential oil is quite common for treating stomach ailments such as gas, indigestion, nausea and vomiting. The warming effect can also act as a circulatory stimulant and muscle relaxant. In some instances it is used to negate the effects from drug withdrawal.

Aromatic Uses: The spicy and woodsy scent from nutmeg aromatherapy oil can ease anxiety and can be energizing and rejuvenating.

Nutmeg Essential Oil Recipes:
  • Re-energizing: Mix 2 drops Nutmeg Essential Oil, 2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil, 2 drops Thyme Essential Oil in a diffuser or aromatherapy lamp. Alternatively, place on a handkerchief and inhale deeply.
  • Rise to a challenge or build self-confidence: Mix 2 drops Nutmeg Essential oil and 2 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil in a diffuser or aromatherapy lamp. Alternatively, place on a handkerchief and inhale deeply.
  • Apple Pie Potpourri: Blend 2 drops Nutmeg Essential Oil, 1 drop Clove Essential Oil and 2 drops Cinnamon Essential oil. Sprinkle blend over a collection of dried fruits, cinnamon sticks, and/or wood shavings. This potpourri can be placed in a glass bowl and added to enhance the aromas in any room of the house. Alternatively, add the potpourri mixture with 2 cups of pure distilled water, and simmer over the stove where the aroma will fill the house.
